Wonderful Wednesday Kittens in the Bathtub

Due to schedule conflicts caused by Monday's power outage,
Lulu's checkup has been changed to Friday...
Since she prefers to spend most of her time in the carrier which may be due to vision issues, last night I coaxed her into playing bouncy ball with her brother Lil Joe (Joey).

Purrz, Katie Kat.

P. S. The outage Monday was due to a squirrel inside the substation which caused a small explosion.  Power came back on for most of the 10,000 residents affected in about an hour and a half, including Nana's neighborhood.

Vet Visit Update Ulcer in Lulu's Eye

Vet Appointment went really well.

Went to see Dr. Johnson... He had moved from Indian Hills to his own private practice.  Dr. J has been our family vet for decades and has healed and saved the lives of many of our kitties...  He treated my parent's kitty who had FIV.  Because of his diligent care, "Kitty" lived to be 20 years old.

All the kittens were weighed, temperatures taken, eyes, ears and throats checked.  Three weigh over 2 pounds. Little Laura the long-haired girl still weighs under 2 pounds.

Lil Joe had a tiny scar on his right cornea where a possible ulcer had healed.  Otherwise his eyes and lungs were doing very well.

Laura sneezed a few times, but otherwise her lungs and eyes looked great.

Annie seemed in the best health and weighs more than Lil Joe!

Lulu's eye may have a small ulcer on her cornea.  Dr. Johnson changed her eye meds from tobramycin to erythromyacin.  Her lungs, ears and throat looked good.  She will go back to the vet on Wednesday to see if her eye has improved.  Will take Sister Annie to keep Lulu company.

Please purr that her eye heals and that she doesn't lose her eye... So far she seems to be able to see and the swelling in her inner eyelid was less today and the damage to her eye does not appear to be bad enough for her to lose it.

More good news is that I didn't have to pay today.  Mainly because Dr. Johnson is not taking Care Credit cards at this time and that was all I had to pay with.  I will pay on Wednesday.

The total bill for today's visit and Wednesday's will be a little over $125.00.

Videos from the Vet Visit in next post!

Right Eye Still Swollen

Taking this flyer with me to Vet's today.

Kittens all have names for the moment.  Sweet Laura is long-haired.  Annie May (aka Pattie in the poster) is a purr machine. Lulu is a wee bit shy. Lil Joe has a white "J" in the middle of his brown tabby back.

Lulu's right eye is not getting much better. Taking all the kittens with me to the Vet's today. Appointment is at 12:30 CST.

Even after 7 days of antibiotics and eye meds, they are still sneezing sometimes, but for the most part their little respiratory systems sound fairly clear to my untrained ears... and at least three kittens have clear eyes.

But Lulu's right eye has to be seen.  Hopefully Dr. Johnson will be able prescribe a different eye med that might work better for Lulu than the one given at the emergency vet.

My greatest prayer is that Lulu will not lose her eye....  Please keep her in you purrs and prayers.

P.S.  Truthfully, there are no "real" funds for their Vet Visit.  I am down to less than hundred dollars in the bank until my husband's SS monthly check comes next Wednesday.  But eyes are not something you wait on... nearly lost the sight in my left eye last year, then had to have laser surgery on my right eye last month.

Using a Care Credit account that will be maxed with no available funds as soon as the "deferred interest" is added in July, which will make the account over $2500 in debt.  The account was nearly maxed last year:  to pay off half the dental bill for the Original Cats Gang (all now over the Rainbow Bridge; see banner at the bottom of the blog); for Princess the Persian's medical needs (who found a forever home last August) and to try to save the life of a kitten named Andi the Brave last summer who had FIP... she passed away in my arms.

The Care Credit Card was also used two weeks ago to take Lil Joe to the emergency clinic and to pay for antibiotics and eye meds for Joe and his sisters.

Today's office visit for the kittens will be 49.50, plus whatever meds Lulu might need.

For Any Donation to help pay on the Care Credit Bill, I can draw your fur babies from a photo.

In loving memory of Andi the Brave...

Wonderful Wednesday Kittenz in the Bathroom

Looks like "The Mom" has her hands full again!  These babies are Doobie's nieces and nephews....Doobie had a sibling that was too fraidy to learn to be an indoor kitty, a black kitty that I called Hubie.  Been feeding Hubie outside since last August, back when Doobie and Hubie showed up... Well I hadn't seen Hubie in several weeks.  Then two weeks ago, Hubie showed up on the patio next door and just casually laid down... Next thing, several kittens wandered over and laid down too.  Uh oh.... Hubie wasn't Doobie's brother!  Hubie was Doobie's sister!  so  Hubie is now Yubi.
And I knew who the Daddy was too.  There's a long-haired orange tabby that comes to eat on the patio almost every night that I nicknamed George.  He has a flea collar that's too tight on him and he acts abandonned... (Georgie Porgie ran away...) No pics of him at the moment.

Yubi outside by the patio.  The kittens were sick with upper respiratory infections, but are doing much better now after taking antibiotics and eye meds, except for the little girl (behind the toilet in the first pic) whose right eyelids are still swollen.

"The Mom" made some videos, but Youtube won't accept them... even though the file type is on their acceptable list.

Caught Lil Joe first and took him to the emergency Vet on the 9th.  He was easy to catch by hand, since his eyes were so matted and he liked the sound of my voice. Here he is at the vets.

Here he is looking so much better after a week of antibiotics... Since The Mom couldn't catch his sisters easily, she put the meds in their food and set up a large kennel crate for them to eat in.  Once they got used to that crate, she was able to catch the two calicos on the 11th (more details later).  Then Friends of Felines loaned her a kitty trap and caught the tortie last Friday the 14th.  Once all the girls were caught, brought them into the house.  Joe was so happy to see his sisters!  Before she brought the girls in, Joe was hyper and climbing all over the Mom and loudly mewing in her face all the time and helping type on the keyboard, but that's my job!

After The Mom caught the girl kittens... two of the shyest sitting in a box in a crate on the patio. Notice the swollen eye.

Now in the bathroom... the little girl in the middle is the same kitten in the pic above.  Her am the biggest kitten too!. Her eye is still swollen though, but not as bad now that she is getting eye meds.  Mom is furry worried bout her though and will be taking her to the vet soon if the swelling doesn't go down.  The one on the right is the long haired calico girl pictured in the box above.  And then the Tortie girl in the back.

The Girls need names!!!  Anybody gots ideas???

More Info tomorrow!

Today is "the Mom's" Mother's birthday!  Other words, It's our human Nana's birthday!  So The Mom is off to have the evening with our Nana.
