Tomorrow Am Giselle's and Kittens' Big Day

Hiya furry friends and humans, Katie the Mom here
Tomorrow I will be transporting Giselle and her kids to Manhattan, Kansas - two and half hour drive to the KU mobile vet unit to have their operations and shots. Please keep us all in your purrz for the drive there and successful surgeries.

Cheddar, Colby, Pepper Jack (PJ) and Heather will stay in Manhattan with Cat Tails Manhattan to find their furever homes...

Giselle (Gigi) will be coming back to my mom aka Nana - Mom is still missing Bibi - yet her house is just too empty with out a fur companion.

My camera phone is still acting oddly - hopefully soon will be able to afford a new phone.  Today will work on getting some new photos of the kittens - they have really grown. The kittens will be 11 weeks old this Sunday. Will share those photos this weekend.

We are so thankful that the motel owner gave us Gigi and her babies day after Labor Day - miserable rainy September 4th to save their lives. Looking forward to seeing how they do at Cattails Rescue Manhattan where another foster will look after them until they find their furever homes....

How sum ever to get the car ready for the trip two tires had to be taken care of. One bald and going flat every 8 hours - had to be replaced. The other was not holding air - slow leak. Went to U-Save Tires yesterday morning - very honest business that shares everything they do before they work.  Come to find out that the tire not holding air had a nail and rim was too dirty to make a seal.

So far the cost to get car ready for trip tomorrow was 93.53 - money was borrowed from a donator and has to be repaid back. And the right rear keeps making a squeaky noise that needs checked tonight - been making that noise since the brakes on that wheel were replaced a few weeks ago.  Please purr we find out the source of that noise! If it is the shock - will have to wait to change out until back from the trip and when funds are available.  Well we will talk to you later - hopefully from Giselle's purrspective on the whole ordeal.

Colby
We sure need your purrz for this life-saving trip - and if you can help with repaying our gracious friend who let us borrow emergency funds, you would be a part of something wonderful - saving five precious lives abandoned and homeless on a rainy day Labor Day Weekend.

Purrz from Katie and the Katz

Thankful Thursday - We am Betters!

Hello?  My name am Kody.  I am 10 weeks old.

I was furry sick, and I thoughts the big funny being was trying to kills me... dat stuffs tasted terrible!  Furst my nose and eyes are all yucky and I cant breath and eats and dis lady gives me yuckies!  I fought and fought - I dont wants to die!

Den I gotted reely tired and gave in... and tooks the yucky stuffs and then the lady she did something really weired... she made me drink waters from a tube and puts foods in my mouth!  why she do that if she trying to kills me???  and then she loved me! she held me and tried to purr - well she still not my Mama... but waits she blink eyed and something about dat holding reminding me of Mama... okay maybe she not trying to kills me.  And then she puts me back in this big box with a wired door - I think it am a carrier.  And I was so tireds I went to sleeps awhile.

When she comed back like a gazillion hours later, I was reelly hungry.  Where she go???  I told her offs for leaving me.  Well she put some yummy meats dats comes in a little glass jar (Beachnut baby food) on a paper plate and lets me out of the box... well I just hads to eat!  I claimed dat plate and nommed all the foods.  And then she puts stuffs in my eye... oh well. I guess Mom's sometimes has to do stuffs we don't likes, but somehow I was starting to feels better! That was like Caturday.   Here am a photo of me from Sunnyday

See that red eye? Well my eye not red no more!  And Tiger had a swollen eye too and Princess had yucky eyes... Guess what??  We dont gots dat no more!

After being a good boy and taking all my yucky stuffs this weeks, I am much better and no more yucky eye! My sisfurs Tiger Lily and Princess are betters too!

Well I want to go play now... Thanks for all the purrz and for what the Lady says am green stuffs dat help her hunt for foods and meds for us...

One of us boys may has a home with an older lady who lives in an "assisted living facility" I dont know what dat is, but sound like where they help you be good like The Lady helped me get wells.

The Lady said we am getting vakynation shots on Saturday... Hope dat aint more yucky meds.
But I likes the Vets room. That will be fun to run around there again.

Emergency Kitten Update

I am devastated right now.... three of my kittens have red swollen eyes from URI. Showed up yesterday evening.  Both girls and one of the boys.  Taking them back to the vet today and really don't have funds... money I have right now is supposed to go for Molly and Ellie Mays spay on Monday.
Kody Bear has one swollen eye

Princess has swollen eyes

This is the same type of URI that almost lost Lulu and Joey's eyes two years ago.  The girls have homes and now they have to wait.

The kittens came down with colds this week.

Tiger's eyes are red too

Last Monday, Teddy Bear was sneezing and had congestion.  A couple of the kittens were sneezing.  So off to the vets with Mom and everyone... Teddy started on antibiotics and Chlortabs.  Wednesday two kitties had goopy eyes so started on antibiotics too.

Yesterday morning, I gave Teddy who had congestion and the two kittens with goopy eyes a dose of antibiotics. Teddy was sounding much better.

Yesterday at 1, I had an echo-cardiogram to check my mitral valve.  Did errands for mom and spent time with mom (who may needs to go in to the doc herself) until late evening only to have my brother (Mike) call after he checked on the kittens. He said that 3 now had swollen red eyes...

We isolated three from the others, but couldn't find the tube of eye medicine I had from last year with Molly's kittens having goopy eyes. I was in tears last night when I saw how bad their eyes were and I didn't have money to take them to the emergency vet. *:-< sigh

Late Last night, I rinsed their eyes with vetericyn which helped a little bit.  But their eyes are worse this morning. I'm taking them to the vet today. This is the type of Upper Respiratory that nearly lost Lulu's eye two years ago. (Usually one of the causes is herpes.)

But all the money I have really right now is for Molly and Ellie May to get spayed on Monday.

Taking kittens to the vet asap and pray that funds come in this weekend or will have to postpone Molly's spay. I may still be able to get Ellie spayed. Ellie is just miserable and hardly eating.

The two girl kittens have homes waiting for them. One of the boys may have a home, but they have to get over this awful URI first. One of the families knows.

At least Teddy is sounding way better this morning and doesn't have swollen eyes. Mama Mew is sneezing but no other symptoms. I gave her a chlortab a while ago.

p.s. I promise to get the blog pages updated furry soon...

Happy 6 weeks old Birthday Kittens!

Mew Mew at the Vets

Kittens at 4 weeks
Mew Mew and the kittens went to the Vet on Saturday.  Mew Mew had been throwing up her food last weekend... and she had gotten really skinny.  She slowly gained her weight back when I took her off of anything with milk in it, including the kitten replacement and Fancy Feast kitten.  I dud give her and the kittens a different brand of kitten milk that was lower in lactose.

Last Thursday she started throwing up again... So off the vets Saturday.  Dr. Johnson and I think it was still Milk products, so no milk products at all!  He gave her Royal Canin high fiber and she ate it all weekend and no throwing up!  Hooray!  But Kody (aka Cody), threw up several times Sunday, yet he kept Mama's milk down just fine.  Today no throwing up for Kody either...I took the kids of off Milk related foods too, so hopefully Kody will be better now.  Please keep Kody in your purrz.

Mew Mews Kittens are turning 6 weeks old today!  They will be ready for furever homes by sometime in June!

I hate this part - like being "god" in control of little kitty lives.

Tiger at the vets

Mew Mew showed up the weekend after my friend Annette Hedke died on my Birthday, Thursday, February 5.

Sunday morning, I had a dream, where I was telling Annette, "No, I can't. Please stop asking me."  I woke up and thought, that's crazy, why would I say I can't to something, when with God all things are possible?  Then I got some food for J J, the kitty girl who stops by to eat on the porch.  Instead of J.J., there was a really friendly black cat on my brother's breezeway porch... Oh no, a new kitty.  When I put food down, she jumped on my shoulders as if to say, I need your help.

Dandy or Cody at the vets... not sure mol
But we didn't have room for another cat - I prayed, and I heard God whisper, "I have provided a place for them..."  I knew he meant all the cats in my care... and now he must mean this little black cat as well.  I brought her in and kept her in the small bathroom.  Good thing, because we had a snow storm after Sunday.

Now, I know that God had to also mean Mew Mew's kittens - he has a place prepared for them.

Please Share and Purr.  Pray that God will guide me in His will for finding the forever homes that He has provided for them, that I will be able to discern where each kitten should go.

Little Princess at the vets

Prayers and Purrz,
Katie Kat.

Furry Mewz 4 Purrz

HOORAY FOR USA!!!  OUR MOM VOTED ON TUESDAY.  WE HOPE YOUR HUMAN STAFF, MOMS AND DADS VOTED, TOO.

The cats and I haven't been blogging cause got some sad newz... and we don't like sad newz... so we're going to call it Mewz 4 Purrz

First some good Mewz 4 Purrz.

Yesterday I placed an ad in the local newspaper for Molly's kittens... and this morning, a furry kind lady who is disabled called, looking for a grey kitten for her grand daughter who has special needs.  Her grand daughter is a miracle girl who wasn't supposed to live. Yet now she is three years old!!

Mittens would be the purr-fect kitten for a special young girl.  I felt that God had a very special mission for Mittens...

The kind lady will talk to her daughter about coming to see Mittens.  We are purring that this is Mittens special mission, to love a special needs girl and her grandmother. The grandmother said that once they find a cat or dog to love, they keep them fur-ever!  We would be able to visit Mittens and see how he is doing and keep you posted on his furever home, too!

Please purr for Mittens and this very special family that they are the purr-fect match for each other.

J.J.'s Kittens Update
On October 19th, Uncle Mike and I were able to set up the kennel cage and capture J.J.'s two black kittens... which are both girls and we discovered that the tabby that I caught on the 17th is actually a boy.  Since the little boy looks like My mom's (Nana's) kitty BiBi, we're calling him Bo...

Mike and I took them to the vets for their check up on the 27th and discovered that the little boy had broken one of his baby fangs. The broken tooth was painful. (Day before the vet visit, the sweet boy had turned skittish.)  The vet put him on antibiotics and pain meds. He finished his antibiotics this past week and his tooth is doing really well. He's back to his playful, sweet self! Bo is going to be a big stocky boy when he grows up.

Lil Bo's cute black sisters are Bobbi (Tail-less) and Tailor ( has a tail). The vet gave Bo, Bobbi and Tailor worm meds and free Revolution kitten kits!!!  They are quickly adjusting to indoor life and slowly getting to know the other cats at Uncle Mike's house.  Their Mom, J.J. is staying around outside and eating on the covered breezeway between the house and the garage... We were able to borrow a large dog house and are setting it up for the cold weather coming Monday night.  Hopefully J.J. will seek refuge in the dog house or the open attic above the garage, instead of the abandoned house far away from her food source.  Will post more photos of J.J. and her kittens, as well as the little video from the vet visit.

Now for the really purrsome Mewz...

BiBi at Christmas Time
Nana's cat BiBi needs lots of purrz. Several months ago, Nana noticed that Bibi had been overly drinking water and going to the bathroom lots and lots...  BiBi had a senior checkup two weeks ago.

She is 13 years old and her kidneys are failing.  She may live a long time yet. She needs to eat canned food, but only wants to eat Kitten Chow... BiBi is very picky. Sometimes she will drink tuna broth.  Does anyone know a good broth to try or a canned food that your picky eater likes?

Please keep BiBi in your purrz.
We will keep you posted on how she is doing... and get a more current photo.

Wednesday Thursday Kitten Vet Photos

We missed Wordless Wednesday - so here am Wordless Wednesday and Thankful Thursday!
Photos from Molly Mom and Kittens at vets on Monday... Mom was being examined, while kittens figured out the world of slippery floors and sitting on shoes... At one point, two of the girls decided shoes were a good alternative to the floor... One sat on my sandal.. and the other on the Vet Assistant's Shoe.

For Wordless Wednesday.

And The Itty Bitty Kitty Committee - Comparing Notes on Slippery Floors and Sitting on Shoes.

 Fur Thankful Thursday...

We ams thankful to go to vets on Monday and gets our eyes cleaned... and auntie biotix.
And that the Katie Lady tooks 34 fleas off us little babies on Wednesday!!!
(using of all things, Tuna Vegetable Oil - Molly cleaned it off afterwards)

FYI- Molly and the kittens came from my mother's neighbor, a single mother who is very overwhelmed financially...

Although Angel, the other cat I also picked up at my mother's neighbor, was out of food and water at the time she was not thirsty or hungry.  However, Angel was in the basement because one of the dogs kept trying to hurt her. Angel and Molly do not get along and have to be in separate rooms.

At the time I picked Molly and kits, Lifeline Animal Placement and Protection (LAPP), the only no-kill shelter in town, had recently pulled two mother cats and kittens from the kill shelter to keep them from being PTS for simply being kittens and a mother cat.  LAPP had no room for more kitties.

So I took Molly, kits and Angel in, even though I had no place for them and was overwhelmed at the prospect of looking after more sweethearts...

Long story short about what was wrong with the house (that needs to be sold) mentioned in a previous post.  Will share a fuller story later...

The house where Molly, kits and Angel could stay had something wrong with the water and a weird odor through out.  I was getting congestion and thought it was the mineral ceiling tile dust, although that tile is still bothering me. I couldn't see how I was going to be able to keep everyone there and spend the nights with the kits, when every time I ran the water, there was this awful rotten egg smell. The weekend of the 6th I called the water dept and left a message. They called me back on Monday, the 8th.  All I had to do was set the hot water heater on the highest setting for at least three days!  A heat resistant bacteria had settled into the hot water heater!  And that poor house had been like that for months and months and I thought it was something coming from the water supply, since the house was close to the river... duh.

Well I ran the heater on high for 3 days and the majority of the odor disappeared and I was able to breathe in the house again!  However I'm still using bottled water.   The hot water heater needs to be drained to get rid of the dead bacteria... the water still smells like dingy dirt... and I'm going to get a water filter for the kitchen sink. And a whole house filter later.

Thankful Thursday Kittens and Stuff

Joey relaxing hours after he spent the morning limping on his hind leg. Since I only heard a blood curdling yell and no other noises, wish Lil Joe could tell me if he fell and banged his hip or just got the worst leg cramp in kitty history.

He sure scared the heck out of me!!! I was crying and so worried that something horribly awful had happened. After I updated how Joey had started walking and jumping around, I love Fuzzy Tales comment, "We're sure this is a huge relief--take a deep breathe...in...out...in...out. LOL."

That night he had a growth spurt which might point to muscle cramps and growing pains. According to some websites, cats can have leg cramps just like us people. Anyone know a kitty that has had muscle cramps?
Joey does have the longest legs and is very long waisted.
So is his sister Lulu.

Lulu was the only one who relaxed on the scale. All her siblings wanted back down!

Annie was 3.03 and Sweet Little Laurie at only 2.13. (playing with boxes yesterday in the living room)
Everyone gained a little weight since Saturday before last and all four were doing great with no upper respiratory symptoms until last night. Now Joey's having some yuckies in his nose again. Good thing Dr. Johnson gave me a second box of Clavamox (two Saturdays ago). This box isn't mixed up yet so it will be fresh. In spite of this slight set back in Joey's URI recovery, will be concentrating on finding these four kitties furever Mommies. There are several very good Vet clinics;to send flyers to - hopefully this week.

And Doobie is doing really well after his neutering... his digestive system has calmed down too. Now a week later, he is having normal bowel movements for the first time!!! I am so thankful that I can finally concentrate on finding Doobs his very own forever home too.

Doobs watching the kittens play the day before his surgery.

Here he is resting last Thursday evening, after his surgery.

The vet's assistant at Spay and Neuter of Kansas thought Doob's name should be Hoss! Well he actually lost a pound after the surgery, but he might have gained it back. I still think of him as Davey the Brave, big goofy sweetheart...he loves watching the kittens and wants to play too.

Purrz n more Stuffs later.

Katie Kat.

Updates on Lulu and Kittenz

Look at who am opening her right eye!!!

Thank you for all your purrs and special thanks
to Karen Alcorn who kindly sent some funds to help with the kittens' vet visits.

So thankful that Lulu won't lose her eye. This photo was taken at the vets on Saturday.
She still shies away from bright light and there is a white spot in her cornea where the ulcer is healing.  All the kittens are still having runny noses so Dr. Johnson prescribed more clavamox for the next two weeks.  They will have another check up on Saturday the 13th.

Also Doobie Davey is getting nuetered on Thursday.  Hoping that will help calm his tummy.  Doobie and Lil Joe were playing Sunday evening... So funny.  Doobs rarely does anything save sleep and ask for catnip.  He has no idea what toys are for.

At first, Doobie just watched Joey run all over the living room. Then when Joey jumped at his Uncle Doobie, Doobs just looked at me like he thought Joey was crazy.  So I said, "Doobie, Joey just wants to play, honey.  Remember what play is?  Did you play with your sister?"  Doobie got this "oh!" look on his face and started playing tag with Joey!  And he was really gentle too.  Too bad I didn't get a photo... well maybe next time.

Saturday's vet visit cost $70.12
The two visits before cost $185.46 for a total of 255.58

The emergency Vet visit for Joey was 153.00 (via care credit card)
So far the kittens vet expenses have come to 408.58.  (This isn't counting food and litter and stuffs like that...)

Karen Alcorn graciously sent 25.00 to my paypal account - rec'd 23.72 with a note that said, "With love from Tasha, Buddy and Angel Gypsy (with Mum Karen) @ http:\\kazpluscats.blogspot.com"  In Gypsy's memory, will be drawing this photo of him:

After the donation, had $24.38 in my PayPal account.  $24.00 of the donation was applied to the kittens vet bill, while the .38 cents went toward the donation made for Marigold's auction. (Item # 39)  Sweet Marigold's mom can be found at http://hevensentmecat.blogspot.com/

Doobs neutering will only be $30.00 due to a low cost clinic.  He will also get his rabies and kitty "flu" shots which costs $10.00.  The shots will be paid for by an org called RETAIN which helps with pets getting spayed and nuetered.  Usually RETAIN pays the whole bill, but they are strapped for funds and can only pay the shots.

And More vet visits to come for the kittens.  They all still need FIV/FLV testing, de-worming, kitten booster shots and spayed/neutered.

Just an FYI...  since Dr. Johnson isn't able to accept Care Credit, the 255.58 came out of funds budgeted for buying a new cell phone to keep in contact with my disabled Mom (my current one is dead... thanks Samsung for selling a defective phone) and property taxes for my house, which were due two months ago.

I'm looking into setting up an account at http://www.youcaring.com/ which doesn't charge for receiving funds.  If anyone has info about the site, please let me know.  In the meantime, the Paypal "donation" link still works...Any bit for the foster kits would help so much...

Purrz of thanks from all kittenz and katz,
Katie Kat.
