Quick Eye Update

 Thanks and purrz go out to everyone who has commented and am praying for me.

A quick update asking to keep me in prayer.


Can't look at the screen very long with my right eye ..makes me nauseous.
So will be a while before can visit lots of blogs so sending purrz of thanks from here.
 

need prayer to keep all the germies away and complications and stuff that can happen after surgery.

Got a horrible headache and nausea.. can't think past it right now. 

Haven't eaten much, but drinking water...

washing my hands and using my eye drops.

all i did today was read a book and sleep....lol
can't lift the catfood bag... so just spilled it on the floor.

tried to work on posters to help find my foster kitties new homes... screen making me nauseous.
Princess the Petite Persian still needs a furrever home, plus seven more young cats...

hopefully will fix the flat screen later so I'm looking down at it.

Surgery Successful Eye now Healing

Hiya folks and furry friends!

Thank you so much for all your purrs and prayers.

Sunday morning surgery went very well...  

(the first thing I remember after waking up was hearing a discussion about intubating me due to snoring.) Don't remember the intubation, but still have a sore throat and sore abdominal muscles...  My eye was covered up with lots of bandages and a metal plate.

Had trouble sleeping Sunday night. Kept waking up... had to sleep on my side or on my stomach to keep the gas bubble in my eye next to the retina.  Is my eye sore!  (had an Rx for pain..)

Monday morning, went into the specialist's office to have bandage removed and get meds for my eye.  Have to wash out my eye several times a day and use three different eye drops.  The atropine (eye dilator) is only once a day in the morning.  The antibiotic and steroid are four times a day!!

While at the office, the doctor checked my eye and let me know that there was no macular problems and the retina looked firmly re attached.

So far just seeing light and shadows until the gas dissipates, which takes about two weeks. Looking forward to each day to 'see' how well my eye recovers.

What timing for this to happen!  Not only did my retina detach on my wedding anniversary IAug 23), My mother is having abdominal surgery next week to repair a prolapsed bladder.  Please pray for both of us.  I'm the only support Mom has...(she had a brain tumor removed several years ago).

Eye Update

Saturday Evening Update:
Called the Optometrist office that I saw before and got his emergency line.
Referred to optometrist on call and had to travel outside city limits to her office, but was worth it.  (Mom drove)

Very competent and she checked my eye and could see a definite retinal detachment.  Referred to Retinal specialist in town... Saw him at 9:15pm.  Seems that I have lattice degeneration in both eyes, a condition more common with nearsightedness and makes the retina more vulnerable to detaching.

Will be having surgery in the morning to repair the retina...  Reporting to the hospital at 7am.  Specialist is the best in town, so in good hands.


Possible Procedure: vitrectomy and a sclera buckle.

Vitrectomy - removes the vitreous fluid that has pulled away and will be replaced.  According to my research, there are several things that are used to replace the vitreous fluid including gas, saline or silicon gel.  Will know more about that tomorrow.

Scleral buckle. This treatment for retinal detachment involves surgically placing a silicone band (buckle) around the eye to hold the retina in place. This band is not visible and remains permanently attached. Thermal treatment may then be necessary to close the tear. This procedure is effective as high as 95% of the time. (WebMD)

Mom needs purrz for Left Eye

Please purr fur our Mom...  Katie and the Katz Gang

The vitreous fluid detached from the back of my eye about two weeks ago... (when I was going to start posting again.)  Went to Immediate care last week with Via Christi Hospital... they sent me to Optometrist: retina was still detached according to the optometrist. 

But now a "floater," possibly a "Weiss Ring" is at the back of my eye clouding 3/4th of my vision.  Went to ER at 3am.  Doctor acted incompetent... asked me the patient, what the medical term "posterior vitreous detachment" meant.  He even told me he knew very little about eyes and there was "no ophthalmologist on call."  He did not refer me to an Ophthalmologist, but merely wrote it in the dismissal paperwork as a "suggested recommendation."

Have appointment with a charity clinic I normally use, hoping they can refer me so can afford to go... but appointment not till Tuesday and then who knows how long b4 seeing an ophthalmologist.  could get referral from optometrist, but already looking at huge bill from immediate care, optometrist and visit to ER...(no job = no insurance.)

More than 14 hours after a tornado blew a hole through his father’s house in Oaklawn and scattered debris across the area, Ken Gardner heard a tiny meow.

He started digging through the rubble Sunday afternoon and found a tiny tiger-striped kitten, scared but alive.

Gardner took the kitten inside his father’s house, and gave it some milk.

His father, Larry Gardner, slept through the tornado that damaged his home Saturday night, which included a soccer sized hole all the way through to the inside wall next to his bedroom.

A Sedgwick County sheriff’s officer knocked on his door around 11:30 p.m. or midnight after the damage had taken place, but he just went back to bed.

“There’s nothing I could have done. It was dark,” Larry Gardner said.

Neither Larry Gardner nor his son know where the kitten came from or how it ended up beneath rubble of the backyard tool shed.

They plan to keep the cat and named it Twister.

Hiya! Princess waz having eye trubblez cuz her whiskerz were getting in her eyes! So The Mom trimmed the long curly whiskers.  Course she left all da other ones alone.

Princess eyes am doing much better now. Her am getting real feisty. Mom tried to take her photo outside so she didn't have to use the flashy thing, but Princess jumped off the porch chair and ranned her little legs faster den Mom!! Dat waz a big chase for a little girl!

The Mom has prints of her furry first painting up on Ebay. Bid starts at only 99 cents plus 2.00 shipping and handling.

Precious Princess Update 2

Princess just loves brushing and will even reach up for the brush when I stop!

I think she likes dangly toys.  Will check that out.

She is such a dainty lightweight girl underneath all that purrtee fur. I believe my mother's neighbor told me last December that Princess was around 8 years old.

She seems to like corn free dry food that I feed my other foster kitties.  (I found one at Walmart.) I am also feeding her Healthful Life by Purina and small amounts of canned food as a treat. (She likes Fancy Feast!) So far she hasn't shown any signs of more constipation, and she likes her litter box with fragrance free corn litter called Fresh Results (https://www.walmart.com/ip/8In1-Pet-Products-Cat-Litter-Fresh-Results-10-Lb-Cats/10450484)

 

Her love of brushing will help keep a lot of fur out of her tummy. Having the Miralax that Dr. Jones recommended to have on hand is also a good idea.

She still has some watery eyes and stuffed nose issues, but has remarkably improved. Dr. Jones recommended using a saline solution to clean her eyes and I've tried that and the tiniest bit of mentholatum on top of her nose. Her purrs are sounding much clearer (instead of sounding like snoring, poor little sweetie.)

My tuxie girl, Katie Kitty Too sometimes gets watery eyes. A lysine product called Viralys and an ophthalmic ointment seemed to help Katie Too.

Any one who has or had Persian kitties with stuffy noses or runny eyes?

If so, what did your vet recommend?

Also Princess already has a potential new mommy!!

Precious Princess

These are photos of Princess sitting on the counter at the vet's office.  Isn't she a ham!!! She gotz her bath done and her fiestiness all back. Hur am all ready to get outta there!!


All her organs tested just fine!! No diabetes and nothing wrong with her thyroid! Dr. Jones (Cat Hospital of Wichita) said Princess might need a laxative when her gets too much hair in her tummy, and recommended Miralax.

Monday and Tuesday this little precious girl had no constipation so far while eating corn free food.



She has been furry good and using her litter box like a big girl. She is already gaining weight, her eyes are clearing up, but still has the sniffles. The petite sweetie tries to purr and ends up sneezing.


She just finished her antibiotics... will see if she needs anymore.The tiniest bit of Mentholatum on her itty bitty nose helped a lot this evening.

Good News about Princess!

Took her to The Wichita Cat Hospital yesterday.

No diabetes!!! She may have an overactive thyroid which means she will just have to take a pill everyday, but she is so good with taking pills.

The antibiotics are making her feel better. She's eating and drinking water just fine.

She is staying at the vets until Monday.

Princess is constipated though and will get an enema. And a real bath!

Such a spunky little girl.

Help me Save Princess the Persian Kitty

The Mom - that is me - haz been furry overwhelmed lately by all sorts of stuffoms, specially by caring for umpteen kittiez....

This kitty needs help asap. Her name is Princess and was living with My Mother's Neighbor who brought her home from the humane society. This is how she looked in December.  A small healthy older kitty with a feisty but gentle lady cattitude. That's me holding Princess while MMN takes the photo.   

Here is Princess today all scruffy looking after I tried to give her a bath with warm vinegar water and trimmed some matted fur.

When My Mother's Neighbor was evicted from her home almost two weeks ago, she left her cats and puppy with "A Neighbor" who couldn't care for Princess. Not that she didn't try, just too much responsibility for "A Neighbor" to handle - she was afraid to handle a petite older cat. Princess was left in a carrier where she soiled herself constantly. Her carrier was cleaned, but not Princess.

Unknown when she became ill before or after the eviction, since I was told that Princess began hiding and not using the litter box after Halo, the male cat My Mother's Neighbor had lost last year was found and brought home from the humane society more than a month ago.

Princess is furry sick, but eating and drinking lots of water for now. She may have developed diabetes.  She holds her urine in for way too long and has the sniffles. I gave her some Clavamox today and hope to take her to the vet in the morning.  She desperately needs an auction to pay for her bills. (all funds fur Princess Auction will help Princess only) My brother will help fund tomorrow's visit, but will need to be paid back as soon as possible.

If Princess perks up after vet care, I may have a home for her in Oklahoma with a member of a Persian Rescue Group.  Princess needs lots of Healing Purrs too.

Mom found out all by hurself dat we all loves deze  and da calming ones amz reel goods for da scaredy babiez...

Here am too of our furry shy scaredy babiez... Deyz my brutherz - Jordi am da white kitty wif da blue eye.  Boo Boo (aka Justin) am da purrtee black kitty.

Dog Rescues Kittens

A bag of kittens were dumped out on an Iowa country road and left to die, but two kittens were rescued by an unlikely hero. The Raccoon Valley Animal Sanctuary says animal cruelty is far too common. About three months ago, they received a frantic call from a Madison County woman who pulled two kittens from a bag that her dog found in the middle of the road. Meet Skipper and Tipper, or as sanctuary volunteers call them, the "bag kittens." That's because they should have died in a Meow Mix sack.

“It was gruesome, quite gruesome because the kittens; there was a litter of 4 or 5 of them and you couldn't tell if there were 2 or 3 in the bag because they had been run over by a vehicle. It was not a pretty sight,” says Linda Blakely of the Raccoon Valley Animal Sanctuary. Tipper and Skipper were sealed into the bag, dumped on a road and crushed by oncoming traffic. It's a miracle they survived the experience. However, that's not the end of the story. Meet Reagan. He found the bag and dragged it all the way home to his owner. Reagan whined until she opened it.

“The instinct of the dog was to nurture and not kill the kittens. With all the blood some dogs would have responded to the scent. Reagan the dog is a hero,” says Blakely. Reagan's owner could hear Skipper and Tipper's faint cries from inside the bag. However, she was totally unprepared for what she found when she opened it. There were more who didn't make it.

Three months later, Skipper and Tipper look like normal, healthy kittens. All thanks to a caring loving pooch and the kindness of a few animal lovers.

Says Linda Blakely, “Our slogan here is that we’re living proof there is a way. These guys are testament to it.”

Purrz P.S.  Miri's mammary glands are slightly swollen. The vet said on rare occasions, some girlz do this after their lady surgery depending on the time of their cycle when the surgery occurred.  Plz purr dat hur glandz go down and no infection sets in. 

(And da Mom's surgery consult for hur mammary biopsy is January 9th.)
